Unfinished means - Not brought to the final desired state. In our case, this means the item is finished being created, however it does not have a final paint, stain or decoration. The wood is raw and sanded and sent.
This is the clear satin spray used on exterior wood surfaces as a type of finish, or final desired state. Generally we will make 4 passes with this finish to ensure a great finish.
As polyurethane is a type of finish, you would need to strip your item of this finish in order to paint or stain for a different desired look. So, if you plan to paint or stain your item, we DO NOT recommend opting for this finish.
Food Tray Maintenance:
Once to twice per year, you will need to put mineral oil or butcher block conditioner on tray.
We use Howard Butcher Block Conditioner. This is a blend of bees wax and mineral oil.
TRAYS SHOULD BE CLEANED WITH A DAMP CLOTH AND NEVER SUBMERGED UNDER WATER.
We use various combinations of up to 9 different wood species in a project. These colors are NOT obtained from stain or paint. These different wood species are cut and/or sanded to uniform size and then glued and pressed together into one uniform blank. We then cut our design from this blank and do all finish work by hand.
We typically juse a combination of the following woods:
OAK
RED OAK
CHERRY
WALNUT
HICKORY
HARD MAPLE
WHITE ASH
POPLAR
ALDER
BIRCH
We also can order in exotic woods upon request:
PADAUK
PURPLE HEART
ZEBRA WOOD
BOCOTE
BLOODWOOD
& MORE
We do use PINE for certain projects, but never for anything designed to be FOOD SAFE.
For outdoor specific projects we like to use REDWOOD. This wood will last longer outdoors than others. Other woods are obtainable upon request.
